Jewelweed Floral Studio

Connecting ecological restoration with contemporary botanical design for elevated editorial and event florals.

Jewelweed: a common wild plant that reveals its luminous beauty if you know how to look. Held underwater, the leaves of jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) shimmer like polished silver. What other kinds of unexpected botanical beauty can be found with careful attention and design experimentation?

I take pleasure in finding beauty in species and materials outside the mainstream of the floral design industry to create spirited, sculptural compositions rooted in local ecology. For me, plants are collaborators rather than mere materials. Inspiration arises from their presence as living beings, as well as their colors, textures, and shapes. My floral design is improvisatory by nature, following the plants’ character and natural tendencies to find balance and harmony.

Designing with native and locally grown plants can be a meditation on place and belonging. My palette includes native species, sustainably grown local flowers, and any surprising  beauty I can discover in the mixed-up ecosystems of urban and suburban landscapes. This work is floral design grounded in the present moment—seeking ecological restoration while engaging the aesthetic and symbolic realities of contemporary landscapes. It is a decorative, ephemeral art form elevated by critical inquiry, imbued with poetry, vitality, and integrity.

Floral design connects me intimately to the plants I work with in designing landscapes, or observe in forests, fields, and city streets. Bringing local flowers into homes, events, and ceremonies fosters kinship between human communities, natural communities, and the land that is home to us all.

I use thrifted and salvaged vessels and installation materials to minimize environmental impact and to honor the layered histories objects carry.

Flowers are purchased exclusively from local growers, or foraged sustainably with care and knowledge.

Jewelweed Floral Studio is 100% free of floral foam, single-use plastics, and imported flowers.

After events, everything is composted, recycled, or reused.
